The Todds Hand Knits team visited Florence earlier this year for the summer’s Pitti Filati show. Pitti Filati is the main international event for the knitting yarn industry; it’s the very first look at brand new fashion and lifestyle trends. A real 'Who's Who' of the yarn world! We visited our good friends, and suppliers, Zegna Baruffa on their rather swanky stand, drank some wine, scoffed some mini sandwiches and admired their beautiful yarn collections.
For those of us that managed to dodge the gigantic yarn covered ball installations and make it downstairs a real treat lay in store. With a quick walk through the trend area you couldn’t mistake the theme and inspiration of this year’s show – Love. Each heart shaped hole in the wall lovingly displayed textiles of fancy patterns in even fancier yarns. Mannequins hand in hand and draped in the finest knitwear stood in a row down the centre of the room. The intricate details of the pieces on show were quite enviable and represented the highest calibre of craftsmanship. We were very impressed! Classic still images of LOVE flickered across the projection screens and we left feeling a little gooey and sentimental inside.
Of course, Florence was as enchanting as ever; it might just be our favourite European city. Though we had visited before we still hit all the ‘must-see’ attractions. We climbed the 463 steps of the Duomo, meandered down the banks of the Arno and treated ourselves to a cheeky gelato in Piazzale Michelangelo.
A week of great yarn, good wine and even better food, a very Todds Hand Knits kinda business trip.
