Last Friday we popped into The Fibreworks on Cowley Road in Oxford to talk all things yarn over a cuppa with shop owner Natasha.
It is hard to believe that this yarn store is still in its first year of existence, it feels like it's been here forever. A real community has grown up around this little gem and it shows no signs of slowing down. With Knit 'n' Knatter classes every Tuesday and Thursday there is always something going on inside its woolen clad walls, whether you are an experienced knitter or a total newbie. Fibreworks is definitely leading the charge in shirking the doddery stereotype often associated with the knitting community, with many Oxford-going students popping in to satisfy all their knitting needs.
You can find anything in this store! Knitted octopuses adorn the noticeboards, a photo of a dashing knitting Russell Crowe greets you at the door and you may even spy a knitted boob waiting to be sent to the local midwifery unit! If you fancy creating something yourself then you can purchase some of our very own Todds Hand Knits yarn in a variety of different colours and fibres, ready for your most bizarre creative notions.
Shop runner and all-round-lovely-person Natasha is a fountain of knitting knowledge and always quick with a pun - seriously, we wish we could have thought up with the linguistic genius that is ‘Social Knitworking’. Her witty blackboards outside the shop are sure to draw a smile from passersby, our favourite may just be 'Voulez Vouz Crochet Avec Moi, Ce Soir?' The shop feels like a real home from home. All customers are greeted with a warm welcome and a wave, it is all you could ever want from your local yarn shop.
So whether you need to pick a brain or just a stitch, we recommend you pop into Fibreworks, the knitting wisdom's all there waiting for you.
